Today, on our way to Sabra 9, River barrel rolled the ship. I ain’t sure how, but she did it!
Anyway I spent the first half of the day sweeping and pressure washing the cargo bay. ‘Tain’t my job, but I guess it’s alright. Simon helped me a bit before Jayne hollered at him to fix his hangnail or something. Jayne shoulda been the one sweeping and pressure washing. Inara says I’m nice so I get pushed around more, but the way I figure it, the captain wouldn’t ask her to do anything out of the ordinary, seein’ as how he likes her and all. I guess at the end of the day, i love Serenity and I love takin’ care of her more than I love complaining :)
It’s been exactly 48 days since I’ve eaten a fresh fruit. Gotta do something about that.
Simon told me yesterday that he’s never had a peach, can you believe that?! Even with his rich parents, he never ate a peach. Right after he told me that, River poked her head around the corner and said somethin’ like,
“Oh you’ve eaten peach, you just don’t know it.”
And then he said how could I have eaten peach without knowing, and she sang (very prettily),
“The fruit you ate lay in the belly of the beast on Christmas morning.” We didn’t know what to say, so we clapped. She bowed and left. She’s gonna be a great sister one day, I can tell.
The captain’s been awful sad lately. I think space is getting to him. And we ain’t found a job in five or six days. Should be one on Sabra 9, though.
I hope there is.
i did not need this information
I fact-checked this and it led to me this poem.
That does not make the fact any less heartbreaking.
